MathJax on Jekyll

Setting up MathJax on a Jekyll blog.

Set up

Details here: Creating a mathematics blog with Jekyll and MathJax - Getting Started.

Notation

We need to use:

\\( ... \\)

and:

\\[ ... \\]

as the delimiters for in-line maths and displayed equations, respectively, i.e. the \ must be escaped.

However:

$$ ... $$

can also be used as the delimiters for displayed equations (but $ ... $ can't be used as delimiters for in-line maths).

See https://docs.mathjax.org/en/latest/input/tex/delimiters.html.

Test

When \(a \ne 0\), there are two solutions to \(ax^2 + bx + c = 0\) and they are:

$$ x = {-b \pm \sqrt{b^2-4ac} \over 2a}.$$
